Canadian Denis Shapovalov advanced to the Korea Open tennis final with a 7-5, 6-4 win over American Jenson Brooksby on Saturday.
Seeded fourth in the tournament, Shapovalov had six aces and four breaks in five opportunities. He also won 73 percent of the points after slotting his first serve into play.
“I am very happy with my performance. Jenson is a really complicated player (to face) and I’m just happy to have won and to be in the final”, analyzed Shapovalov.
The 23-year-old Ontarian qualified for the semi-finals with a two-set victory over Radu Albot.
For his part, Brooksby, seeded eighth, had taken advantage of the withdrawal of Briton Cameron Norrie to find Shapovalov in the semi-finals.
In Sunday’s final, Shapovalov will battle Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka, who defeated American Aleksandar Kovacevic in straight sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
“I’m going to have to keep using my style. He’s a great player, it’s going to be a tough game,” Shapovalov predicted.
