Sexual Assault | The trial of former Major-General Dany Fortin begins Monday

(Ottawa) The sexual assault trial of Major-General Dany Fortin is scheduled to begin Monday morning at the Gatineau courthouse.

Posted at 9:43 a.m.

This trial begins a little over a year after Major-General Fortin was removed from his position as head of the national vaccination campaign against COVID-19, in May 2021.

He was then charged, in August 2021, with one count of sexual assault for an event that allegedly occurred in 1988.

Dany Fortin has always claimed his innocence regarding the facts of which he is accused. He is also contesting, in Federal Court, the way in which he was dismissed from his post as part of the vaccination campaign.

Mr. Fortin notably accused Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other senior government officials of having dismissed him for purely political reasons.

The Federal Court rejected his request for reinstatement, but Mr. Fortin is appealing this decision. His motion will be heard next month.
