Sexual assault: the NHL will wait for the end of legal procedures

The commissioner of the National Hockey League (NHL), Gary Bettman, refuses to talk about sanctions against the 2018 Junior Team Canada players accused of sexual assault before the end of legal proceedings.

Legal documents indicate that Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, Alex Formenton, Carter Hart and Michael McLeod will all be charged with sexual assault. The case is expected to go to court on Monday.

Speaking before Friday’s NHL All-Star Game skills competition, deputy commissioner Bill Daly added that the league would not release the findings of its own investigation until players are acquitted or found guilty.

The documents also state that McLeod will face an additional charge “for his participation in a criminal act.”

The charges that will be filed relate to allegations of sexual assault made by a person, identified by the initials “EM”, on June 19, 2018.

All players who will be charged have obtained permission from their respective clubs to be absent for an indefinite period.
