Luck Mervil was not present at the Rimouski courthouse; it was his lawyer, Anne-Marie Drouin, who represented him by videoconference.

She also indicated Monday morning that her client wanted a trial before judge alone. The option of presenting the case before judge and jury was therefore ruled out.

Sexual assault charge

Remember that the singer was arrested on November 29 by investigators from the crimes against the person division of Rimouski.

The 56-year-old man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman on the night of June 23 to 24, 2000 in Rimouski.

The alleged victim was an adult when the events occurred. A publication ban was issued to protect the identity of the complainant.

This is the second time Luck Mervil has been in trouble with the law over sex crimes.

In 2018, the man admitted to having sexually exploited a babysitter who was a minor at the time of the facts, which date back to 1996. He then had to serve a six-month sentence in the community.

This crime also resulted in his name being added to the sex offender registry for 20 years.

This sexual assault case will return to court at the Rimouski courthouse on April 22.
