(Haileybury) Canadian rocker Jacob Hoggard will announce next week whether he wants his sexual assault retrial in northern Ontario to be held by jury or judge alone.
A short hearing took place Thursday morning in a court in Haileybury, Ontario, in particular in the presence of a lawyer for the singer of the group Hedley.
The attorney said Hoggard’s team will make a decision on whether the trial should be by jury or judge alone before the next hearing, scheduled for December 14.
Hoggard is charged with sexual assault in connection with an event that allegedly occurred on June 25, 2016 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario.
The defense explained Thursday that it was continuing to analyze the evidence provided by the Crown earlier this week.
Hoggard was released on bail in October after appealing his five-year prison sentence in another case, where he was found guilty of sexually assaulting an Ottawa woman.
This trial, held in Toronto, took place before a jury.
