A large portion of sexual misconduct complaints submitted to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) have been made by men.
42% of the 19,000 complaints of sexual misconduct received in the CAF were made by men, revealed the new chief of staff, General Wayne Eyre.
In an interview with The West Block, which airs on Global News, Mr. Eyre said the scope of complaints submitted in this process points to a problem the CAF must strive to resolve – even if there was no easy solution.
“This is an issue we all need to address. It is also a problem of power dynamics which speaks of an element that we must correct ”, he maintained.
“The reach is a testament to the depth of the problem,” added Mr. Eyre.
General Wayne Eyre became the Chief of Staff of the Canadian Armed Forces on Thursday. A post he had already held on an acting basis since Admiral Art McDonald was removed from his post last February over allegations of sexual misconduct.
Mr. Eyre, however, said the military was not considering any administrative sanctions against Mr. McDonald for the sexual misconduct allegations made against him.
