Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff will meet with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman on Friday.
This is to discuss his role in the Chicago Blackhawks’ mismanagement of allegations that an assistant coach sexually assaulted a player on the sidelines of the successful road to the Stanley Cup in 2010.
Cheveldayoff was originally scheduled to meet with Bettman on Monday, but the Jets said the meeting was brought forward at the team’s request.
Cheveldayoff was the Blackhawks’ assistant general manager when the allegations against then-assistant coach Brad Aldrich were made by player Kyle Beach.
A recent investigation by the law firm Jenner & Block commissioned by the Blackhawks, in response to two lawsuits, found that the allegations were largely ignored by the team for three weeks, after a meeting on May 23, 2010 to discuss them.
Cheveldayoff was among the Blackhawks’ leadership at the meeting, according to the investigation.
In a statement on Tuesday, Cheveldayoff said he shared everything he knows about the case as part of his participation in the Jenner & Block investigation.
“I look forward to my discussion with Commissioner Bettman to continue to cooperate fully with the National Hockey League,” he said in a statement.
“I will reserve any further comments for after this conversation.” ”
Florida Panthers head coach Joel Quenneville, who led the Blackhawks in 2010, met Bettman on Thursday.
