“Between November 1, 1997 and November 15, in Montreal, Peter Nygard committed a sexual assault”, can we read in an arrest warrant which also accuses him of forcible confinement on the same victim, identified only by his initials .

Nygard, 80, is a Finnish-Canadian multi-millionaire who made his fortune in women’s fashion. Except that according to the American authorities, he would have used his influence to recruit women and teenagers to satisfy his sexual desires.

“He controlled them with threats, or even false promises of career advancement, according to a press release from the American authorities. He sexually assaulted some of these victims. Others were attacked by his associates, or drugged to ensure their obedience. »

However, if the United States is in a hurry to have him in their hands to judge him, it may take a few more years since Nygard will first have to undergo a trial in Toronto, where he is currently detained.

In this case, he is accused of having sexually assaulted and kidnapped women between 1987 and 2006.

“Earlier today, I ordered that Peter Nygard be extradited to the United States to face the charges against him, but only after his trial in Canada,” the federal Minister of Health said on Twitter last week. Justice David Lametti.

This means that with the new criminal proceedings brought in Montreal, this extradition will be delayed.
