In the aftermath of the explosion in the Eurenco factory in Bergerac, Dordogne, Thursday August 4, questions remain unanswered. The accident injured eight people. On the spot, the CGT denounces the dilapidation of the premises and the working conditions. The management claims that the site is in good working order. So are these Seveso classified sites sufficiently controlled?
A fire at an industrial site in Bas-Rhin, on the night of Wednesday to Thursday August 4 and explosions on Wednesday August 3 in a company in Bergerac, where nitrocellulose blew employees and injured eight people, including one seriously. In less than 24 hours, there are two incidents on high-risk sites, classified Seveso. To control these sites, in each department, agents from the Ministry of Ecological Transition are responsible for inspecting them.
In 2021, 1,500 officers carried out more than 2,000 inspections at Seveso sites. But that does not prevent accidents. For ten years, they have been on the rise, with an average of around sixty each year. Companies must anticipate risks. For the CFDT, the alerts transmitted by the employees would not always be heard by the management.
