Football has obviously not finished with homophobia. Several players from the Toulouse football club (TFC) are not on the field, Sunday May 15 against Nantes, due to “their disagreement regarding the association of their image with rainbow colors representing the LGBT movement”, the club announced in a press release. The TFC does not specify how many players are affected.
“Although respectful of the individual choices of its players, and after numerous exchanges, the Toulouse Football Club has chosen to dismiss the said players” for this meeting. “The Toulouse Football Club wishes to recall that 18 nationalities and five continents are represented within its professional workforce (…) Our players are chosen for their human qualities regardless of their beliefs or convictions.”
The TFC “Finally wishes to recall its longstanding commitment to the fight against homophobia and all forms of discrimination (…) Through our Foundation, we will continue to engage on a daily basis with our players, our employees, our volunteers, our partners and our community to educate, raise awareness and create a serene, inclusive and tolerant environment (…) the Toulouse Football Club and all of professional football are mobilizing against homophobia throughout this 35th day of Ligue 1 Uber Eats.”
