On Friday, July 19, a gigantic computer failure paralyzed hospitals, airports, and even stock markets after an antivirus update by an American company.
Dozens of flights cancelled and travellers waiting. In Berlin, on Friday 19 July, planes were grounded and workers found themselves on technical unemployment. The situation is similar in Hong Kong and Sydney. At the Gare du Midi in Brussels, rail traffic was severely disrupted. In Spain, the TV news was interrupted live.
In France, the aviation sector was also affected by the computer bug, as was the Paris 2024 organizing committee. These disruptions of a few hours impacted the delivery of uniforms and accreditations. “We are working on it with all the experts to see how to readapt”assured the president of the Paris 2024 committee, Tony Estanguet. Another consequence: in Maubeuge (North), near Lille, the production line of a Renault factory has been shut down since the end of the morning. Overall, France has been spared from this breakdown.
