March against anti-Semitism: several political disagreements around this initiative
March against anti-Semitism: several political disagreements around this initiative – (franceinfo)
Proposed by the presidents of the Senate and the National Assembly, the march against anti-Semitism, which will be held in Paris on Sunday November 12, did not achieve the hoped-for unity on the issue. The presence of the National Rally and, consequently, the absence of the Insoumis, arouses tension.
Elected officials from La France insoumise mobilized, Thursday evening, November 9, against anti-Semitism and in memory of the victims of Kristallnacht, under the Nazi regime. They will not parade on Sunday, during a march which will include the National Rally in Paris. “We are witnessing something astonishing from the point of view of history, from the point of view of norms and values, since the extreme right could be trivialized in this demonstration against anti-Semitism“, deplores MP Clémentine Autain.
Controversy surrounding the presence of the National Rally
The presidents of the Senate and the National Assembly, Gérard Larcher (Les Républicains) and Yaël Braun-Pivet (Renaissance), are at the origin of Sunday’s initiative. They assured that it was a “individual, independent and civic approach“. The National Rally gave rise to some tensions in immediately announcing his participation in this march. Olivier Véran, government spokesperson, notably estimated that the party had “nonot his place“.
