Several communes in the Somme were victims of sudden rises in water levels and mudslides, after storms on Friday May 24, reports France Bleu Picardie. Cleaning, clearing and pumping operations were underway this Saturday, May 25 in the morning.

According to the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis), 35 houses were affected on Friday in Monchy-Lagache, a town located in the east of the department. Of these, 27 were flooded. One person was evacuated and taken to safety. Two houses and a 400 square meter agricultural building were also flooded in Ugny-l’Équipée. The firefighters were also called around 10 p.m. Friday for mudslides in Cerisy. “15 to 20 houses were impacted” in this village of 500 inhabitants, specifies Sdis to France Bleu Picardie. Two people were “made safe in the village hall, but no one was injured”according to this same source.

The Somme is on yellow alert for “floods” this Saturday. Several municipalities in the department, including Cerisy, have already been affected by flooding and mudslides after a violent storm on Tuesday May 21.
