Several hundred people gathered on Saturday January 20 in front of the town hall of Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis) to pay tribute to Sedan, a 14-year-old schoolboy, killed this week in the Basilique de Saint-Denis metro station, were able to observe the journalists from franceinfo and France Inter present on site. Several parliamentarians were present, as well as Stéphane Troussel, the president of the Seine-Saint-Denis department.
The rally took place at the call of the socialist mayor Mathieu Hanotin, who spoke: “Violence and aggression will never have their place in Saint-Denis, and those who think otherwise will find us in their way,” declared the elected official. He recalled that “calm is the first request of the family, so that mourning can take place”. Mathieu Hanotin has also issued an order to prohibit gatherings on public roads until Monday.
“We advocate peace”
Sedan’s brother spoke out to call on young people “to respect your parents, to listen, not to fight, not to be violent, because it ends badly. I ask you: no violence, no revenge in the name of Sedan. We advocate peace “. During his speech, he also mentioned his younger brother: “He lost his life on a line that we use every day, and, unfortunately, today, this station will bring back bad memories. He was not violent. Dying like that is difficult. What to do his mourning?”
Sedan was found dead on Wednesday evening, after being stabbed around 8 p.m., during a brawl in the Basilique-Saint-Denis metro station.
