They were several hundred this Monday evening on the Saint Jacques bridge between Hendaye and Irun, united, coming from both sides of the border to denouncedeath of a migrant this Saturday in Bidassoa. In all, in a few months, seven migrants have already lost their lives: three by drowning, three hit by a train, and a seventh who killed himself. A situation denounced by associations and demonstrators on both sides of Bidassoa.
Symbolically, the demonstrators had lit torches to find themselves in the middle of this Saint Jacques bridge, above this river where already three migrants have perished. A tribute was paid to the man who died over the weekend with a minute of silence, then the associations took turns speaking in French, Basque and Spanish to ask the public authorities for action, and in particular to secure the passage of these migrants between the border and Bayonne, to avoid new tragedies .
