Across France, several gatherings are taking place on Sunday May 5, at the call of 800 collectives and personalities (such as Annie Ernaux, Vanessa Springora, Family Planning) to denounce what they consider to be a “transphobic offensive”. There were several thousand in Paris, Place de la République, several hundred in Montpellier, 200 in Nice, and 150 in Tours demonstrating peacefully, according to reporters on site from franceinfo, France Bleu Hérault, France Bleu Azur and France Bleu Touraine .

Among the main demands of the activists, their opposition to the bill from Senator LR Jacqueline Eustache-Brinio, which aims to “supervise the medical practices implemented in the care of minors with gender issues”including banning puberty blockers or hormonal treatments to develop the sexual characteristics of the gender with which the minor identifies.

On franceinfo, the spokesperson for Stop Homophobia, Maxime Haes, condemns this proposal considered as “a return of conversion therapy”and a way of “demonize” the transgender community. This proposed LR law on transgender minors will be examined on May 28 in a public session.
