On the other hand, Great Britain was not invited after the declarations of London asking Paris to take back the illegal migrants who arrived on its soil. The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, ensures that this meeting “was not anti-English. She was pro-European”.
This crisis meeting should make it possible to prevent men and women from attempting the dangerous crossing of the Channel to reach England, but also to undermine the networks of smugglers established in Europe. “Migrants are people who are exploited by their misery. They are not the ones responsible.”, emphasizes Gérald Darmanin. By meeting in this way, the European Union also wants to show its unity on the migration issue. Next week, Gérald Darmanin will visit Poland at the headquarters of the Frontex agency, in charge of monitoring Europe’s external borders. From December 1, a plane will fly over the English Channel to identify the boats leaving the French coast.
