To fight against these multiple fires ravaging France, the European Union is sending aid. Planes, vehicles, but also dozens of rescuers are arriving to support France.
Two Greek Canadair have just landed at Bordeaux airport (Gironde). From Thursday August 11, they will participate in the fight against fires in Aquitaine. First stage of an unprecedented system for France. In 24 hours, 400 firefighters will arrive. Greece is sending two planes, while Germany, Romania and Austria are providing equipment. In a Romanian base, 77 men and 14 trucks were mobilized. They carry 4,000 liters of water to be operational immediately. They are currently flying to France.
In total, more than a hundred vehicles from different countries will be in Bordeaux by Friday 12 August, in the evening. Aid partly funded by the European Union under the new Civil Protection Mechanism. It is in this same context that French firefighters are currently predisposed in Greece. The exchanges will multiply. The European Union believes that with climate change, there will be more and more fires each summer, and that the fire fighting system must be redesigned.
