Winter Olympics 2030 in France: several environmental protests in the Alps against the event – (France Info)
In several towns in the French Alps, demonstrators gathered to denounce the ecological consequences of organizing the Winter Olympics in France in 2030. Artificial snow would be necessary in particular.
Demonstrators gathered to protest against the organization of the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps, Saturday January 6 in Grenoble (Isère). At the initiative of the “NO JO” collective, these Earth Uprising activists protested in good humor. They denounce a climatic aberration. “We are still planning to host snow sports in 2030 even though that will require artificial snow and we are under pressure on water resources”deplores a woman.
“Sober Games will not exist”
Similar rallies took place in several towns in the Alps. In Chambéry (Savoie), there were more than 200 of them. Some even put their skis on the tarmac, to illustrate the increasingly glaring lack of snow. “Sober Games will not exist, since we will not have a green plane, we will not have a train to the top of the mountains, we will bring people in in a carbon-intensive way”alarms Valérie Paumier, founder of the association “Mountain resilience”. Conversely, the presidents of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur regions, Laurent Wauquiez and Renaud Muselier, want to see it as an opportunity for these territories.
