Violence has “out of place” in Sudan. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, two countries considered likely to have an influence on the Sudanese military, joined the United States and the United Kingdom on Wednesday (November 3) in a joint call for the “immediate restoration” of the civilian government overthrown by a military coup at the end of October.

“We call for the immediate and complete restoration of the civilian-led transitional government”, said these four countries in a joint statement, ensuring “share the great concern of the international community”.“We encourage the release of all those arrested in connection with recent events as well as the lifting of the state of emergency”, they add.

Last week, a senior US official explained that Washington was in contact with the Emirates united arab, Saudi Arabia but also Egypt so that they put more pressure on the Sudanese generals. Cairo, accused by some observers of supporting the putschist military, did not sign Wednesday’s joint declaration.
