Several complete closures of the Louis-H.-La Fontaine tunnel to be expected in July

Work to repair the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel is intensifying, forcing the Ministère des Transports to completely close certain lanes over the next three weekends.

The tunnel will be completely closed during the nights of next weekend. All traffic will cease from Friday, July 7 at 11 p.m., then start again at 8 a.m. the next day. Ditto for the night of Saturday 8 to Sunday 9, between 11 p.m. and 9 a.m.

The following weekend, July 15, access to the tunnel towards the South Shore will be completely closed to motorists on Saturday and Sunday, day and night. The lane to Montreal will also be closed, but only at night.

Then, it will be the opposite during the weekend of July 21. The route to Montreal will then be completely blocked, day and night, from Friday evening until Sunday. Lanes to the South Shore will also be closed overnight.

“The details of the closures will be confirmed at the beginning of each week,” added the Ministry of Transport in a press release published in the afternoon of Monday.

These closures will allow “to carry out various maintenance, inspection and roadway works”, it is specified.

Repair work on the Louis-H.-La Fontaine tunnel should continue at least until 2025.
