The firefighters and the police intervened this Sunday, April 17, 2022 in the Saint-Nicolas district in Laval (Mayenne). At least seven cars were burned between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., twenty have been degraded according to our information. This is in particular vehicles from the town hall and the county council. Street furniture was also damaged such as bus shelters.
Violence following an arrest “without difficulty of a young man aged 18, author of offenses and contempt of the police“, specifies the prefecture of Mayenne in a press release this Sunday. “A small group of individuals, some of whom are minors, then used this affair as a pretext to commit acts of vandalism by setting fire to private vehicles and degrading others. Bus shelters and garbage cans were also damaged”adds the prefecture which specifies, “A judicial investigation is underway to identify and arrest the perpetrators who will be brought to justice.”
“Intolerable”
“I condemn this violence and I fully support the police and firefighters who had to intervene”, declares to France Bleu Mayenne Florian Bercault, the mayor of Laval. “Violence must be condemned but violence is also a source of questioning as to the public policies to be carried out and that is all we will do in light of the ongoing investigation.“The town hall will file a complaint. A police investigation has been opened.
