No official results have been released yet, but some are already seeing a trend. At least seven of the 17 candidates in the presidential election in Senegal, which was held on Sunday March 24, congratulated anti-system opponent Bassirou Diomaye Faye, according to estimates published by the media.

These estimates place the candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye, still in prison around ten days ago, ahead of the one in power, Amadou Ba, and very far ahead of the others. These announcements triggered scenes of jubilation among his supporters in the capital, but the campaign management of the ruling candidate assured that these demonstrations were premature. She said she was certain that, “in the worst case”Amadou Ba would be in the second round.

No official provisional results yet

Official results of the presidential election held on Sunday should not be known until later this week. The national electoral commission has until Friday to publish provisional results, before their validation by the Constitutional Council.

A victory for Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who wants to be the “candidate for system change” and a “left-wing pan-Africanism”, would be akin to a political earthquake. His program emphasizes the restoration of “sovereignty” national, sold off according to him abroad. Amadou Ba, who was still President Macky Sall’s Prime Minister a few weeks ago, poses as a guarantor of stability and presents his main opponent as a “adventurer” or one “amateur”.
