Several boats caught fire early this morning at Marina BO-BI-NO in the Saint-François sector of Laval, while firefighters are still looking for a cause for this incident.
Incendies Laval was called to the field around 5 a.m. Sunday morning. The chief of operations, Steven St-Jacques, mentions that between 15 and 20 boats are involved. He assures us that the fire is currently under control.
“About 50 firefighters are currently on the scene,” he said. “Operations are going very well. The fire is under control. We attacked the boats from the outside, then we approach quietly, because it was very violent as fire from the start.
These are citizen-owned boats, most of which spend the winter and spring at Marina BO-BI-NO. Mr. St-Jacques estimates that he will have to spend a few more hours on the scene to bring the situation under control.
The cause still remains under investigation, at the time of this writing.
The Laval fire department asks the public to avoid driving in the area.
