• A taste of 2050: the third heat wave of the year in France reaches its peak today with between 38 and 41°C in the country, a heat that is exhausting the hundreds of French and now European firefighters engaged in the east west on multiple fires.
•In a large area around Hostens (Gironde), the chaotic fire has ravaged 7,400 hectares of parched forests for two days now and forced 10,000 people to leave their homes, sometimes for the second time in a month. In the Jura, where two forest fires have devoured around 660 hectares since Tuesday, the progression of one of the fires could be “slow down” while the other is “fixed”according to the prefecture.
• The site of the Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia, the largest in Europe, was bombed again yesterday, Ukraine and Russia blaming each other, while the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency asked for access “as fast as possible” during an emergency meeting of the Security Council.
• After René Goscinny, the Little Nicholas loses his second dad: the French cartoonist Jean-Jacques Sempé, also known for his humorous press cartoons, died at the age of 89.
