Several areas to avoid on the roads this weekend

The Décarie highway, the Papineau-Leblanc bridge and Marcel-Laurin boulevard will be heavily obstructed this weekend due to work. Motorists are also invited to avoid the Laviolette bridge, between Bécancour and Trois-Rivières, where two out of four lanes will be closed.

This was indicated Thursday by Mobilité Montréal, the committee responsible for coordinating major works in the metropolitan region and its surroundings.

From the outset, Highway 15 South will be completely blocked between the Décarie interchange and the entrance to Rue Jean-Talon, from Friday evening to Monday morning. This will involve the default closure of several ramps, including the one leading from Autoroute 40 West to Autoroute 15 South and the one leading from Autoroute 40 East to Autoroute 15 South, both by exit 66.

The ramp leading from Marcel-Laurin Boulevard to Highway 15 South will also have to be closed during the work. On Highway 15 South itself, traffic will also be interrupted at the entrance to Chemin de la Côte-de-Liesse, near Avenue Royalmount, as well as at exit 69 towards Jean-Talon.

But that’s not all. On Highway 40, the entrance to Stinson Street and exit 65 must be closed in the west direction, while to the east, the entrance to Chemin de la Côte-de-Liesse, at the height of the avenue Sainte-Croix, will be impossible to access.

Rue de la Savane will also be inaccessible in its entire section overlooking the highway. Complete closures are also expected on Boulevard Marcel-Laurin, in both directions, between Boulevard Décarie and Rue Saint-Louis. In short, this area should really be avoided if possible, especially since the reconstruction work on the overpasses of Highway 520, above Hickmore Street, resumed on March 25.

Moreover, not far from there, the outfit of the 31e edition of the Course Saint-Laurent will force the closure of approximately five kilometers of local streets, in the Bois-Franc sector. This includes, among other things, the quadrilateral formed by Boulevard Cavendish, Rue Poirier, Boulevard Thimens and Rue Raymond-Lasnier.

In downtown Montreal, the Ville-Marie highway may also be slightly obstructed, while exit 4 will be closed eastbound due to electrical work carried out as part of the major tunnel repair project. If necessary, you will need to take a detour via exit 6, leading in particular to Boulevard Saint-Laurent and Rue Berri.

Contraflow traffic will be in place on René-Lévesque Boulevard, between Atateken streets throughout the day on Saturday. There will therefore be three lanes to the west and only one to the east.

Further north, the Papineau-Leblanc bridge linking Laval to Montreal will be closed again between Friday evening and Monday morning, in order to continue the major repair of the infrastructure. Extensive congestion is expected around the bridge throughout the weekend. The Pie-IX, Médéric-Martin and Viau bridges can be used by motorists as an alternative.

In Center-du-Québec, the Laviolette bridge is also continuing its makeover; two of the four lanes of the bridge will be closed throughout the weekend. In other words, only one lane will be available per direction. The authorities invite users from Montreal and Quebec to use highways 20 or 40 to go from one shore to the other.

Finally, ramp repair work in the Sources interchange, on Highway 20 in Pointe-Claire, will resume next Monday. The project will then continue until the end of 2024.
