The death of a seventh Canadian citizen in the conflict between Israel and Hamas has been confirmed, according to Global Affairs Canada. However, the identity of the victim has not been revealed. Two other Canadians are still missing, the same number as the last update.
“Global Affairs Canada is providing support to seven Canadian families of those who died during the current conflict, as well as the families of two missing Canadians,” the organization said in a press release Thursday.
There are currently more than 5,765 citizens registered on the Canadian Abroad List in Israel, 451 Canadians registered in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and 17,135 in Lebanon.
The military wing of Palestinian Hamas estimated Thursday that nearly fifty Israeli hostages held in the Gaza Strip have been killed by Israeli strikes since the start of the war on October 7.
After having carefully avoided calling for a ceasefire since the start of the conflict, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau finally said earlier this week that he was in favor of “humanitarian pauses”. He still refuses to demand a ceasefire, something that more than thirty federal elected officials have been asking for a week.
