The presidential instructions: franceinfo answers the questions you may be asking yourself on the eve of the second round of the presidential election, Sunday April 24.
1 Can I vote without a voter’s card?
The answer is yes. The voter card is recommended because it facilitates the work in the polling station. But if you don’t have it, you can still vote. On condition of presenting an identity document: identity card or passport (valid, or expired for less than five years). We don’t necessarily know it but we can also present a valid driver’s license, the vital card, the disability card, that of the combatant, parliamentarian or civil servant (if the cards are valid and have a photo ).
2 How do I know if I am registered on the electoral lists?
You must first check that you are still registered and that you have not been deregistered. For that, you go to elections.interieur.gouv.fr. You click “I check if I am registered on the electoral lists”. You specify the municipality where you think you are registered, your name, your first names in the order of civil status, your date of birth. This gives you the municipality where you can vote, your voter number and your office number.
If you have given a proxy, the name of the person who will vote for you is also mentioned. This allows you to verify that your power of attorney has been taken into account.
3Do I still have time to make a power of attorney?
Yes, it is possible in principle to file a proxy until the day before the election, i.e. until Saturday April 23, 2022, but there is no guarantee that it will be taken into account. To make this power of attorney, that is to say, to give a mandate to a person to act in his name, you can prepare everything online at maprocuration.gouv.fr, in order to speed up the procedure, which must, whatever happens, go through the nearest police station or gendarmerie.
You need certain information about the person who will vote for you: either their voter number and date of birth, or their full civil status and voting commune. You will then receive an email with a reference to keep. It is with this reference and proof of identity that you must then validate your power of attorney at the police station or gendarmerie of your choice. If you don’t have the Internet, you can do everything on site, in paper format.
4If finally I can vote, how should I do to cancel this power of attorney?
You don’t need to cancel it. In this case, you just have to go to the polling station before your “agent” – the person who was to vote in your place – has done so. By obviously warning her that she doesn’t have to move in the end.
5Do we have to wear a mask to vote?
The mask is not compulsory but it remains “highly recommended for the elderly or frail, in contact with or with symptoms of Covid-19”. If you have the Covid-19 nothing prevents you from going to vote. The authorities still ask you to put on a mask, even if no one can force you. In any case, no health or vaccination pass can be requested at the entrance. Only regulation could be put in place during peak hours to respect a minimum distance.
6Am I entitled to a mask if I am an assessor?
If you are an assessor and you participate in the organization of the ballot, masks will be made available to you, always without any obligation to wear them. Masks and gel will also be offered to voters. The material made available to voters (pens, storage, ballot boxes, voting booths) will be cleaned frequently during the ballot, explains the government. Self-tests will also be available for members of the polling station. It’s up to you to use them or not. On the other hand, if a sample is positive, you will be invited to return home without participating in the counting.
7By the way, what are the hours of the polling stations?
Polling stations open at 8 a.m. Sunday, April 24. Closing will take place at 7 p.m., and until 8 p.m. in major cities.
