Seven people placed in police custody, suspected of having scammed the Nice University Hospital by invoicing for work never carried out

Seven people were taken into custody on Tuesday March 26, suspected of“organized gang scam” for work that has never been carried out at Nice University Hospital, reports France Bleu Azur. The suspects are three agents of the establishment, several regular service providers and the partner of one of the accused.

They are suspected of having scammed the CHU between 2018 and 2022 regarding renovation work not carried out but invoiced. The financial damage is estimated at 442,339 euros. Seized in October 2022 by the management of the CHU, the Nice prosecutor’s office opened an investigation to “organized gang fraud”, “embezzlement of public funds”, “corruption”, “influence peddling”, “illegal taking of interest” And “whitening”.

Six people placed under judicial supervision

Among the seven people placed in police custody, six were subsequently placed under judicial supervision. The seventh person – the partner of one of the suspects – received a summons for trial. All seven will appear before the criminal court on July 3 to be tried for “organized gang scams”, “organized gang fraud laundering”, “influence peddling”, “favoritism” And “illegal taking of interest”.

Note that during the investigations into this case, investigators discovered another fraud case involving the main suspect in the first case and his partner. This time, it is an insurance scam after storm Alex – which occurred in the fall of 2020 and which hit the south-east of France hard – for an amount estimated at 640,000 euros.
