The Russian strikes, which took place during the night, were the cause of the deadly fire which caused the death of seven people, including three children, in Kharkiv, in eastern Ukraine. Among the victims “there are three children: one 7 years old, one 4 years old and a baby around six months old”declared the governor of the region, Oleg Sinegoubov, on the social network Telegram.

The strikes have “caused a spill of flaming fuel, which caused fourteen private homes to catch fire.detailed the city’s mayor, Igor Terekhov, adding that around fifty people had been evacuated.

A series of night strikes

“At six o’clock, the fight to extinguish the flames continued,” said Kharkiv police chief Volodymyr Timochko, quoted by the Suspilne newspaper.

Saturday’s attack comes after a series of nighttime strikes in Kharkiv and further east, in the town of Velykyi Burlouk. The governor of the Kharkiv region, Oleg Sinegubov, previously said that civilian areas were affected in both localities, including a cafe in Velykyi Burlouk.
