Seven people in “relative urgency” were transported to hospital on the night of Saturday December 2 to Sunday December 3, after a fire which broke out in a building near the center of Marseille and caused its partial collapse, according to the firefighters and the town hall of Marseilles. Around twenty other people in this building and those surrounding it were also evacuated.

“Several buildings were evacuated and city services mobilized to urgently provide care to residents and their accommodation”noted the town hall in a press release, adding that a school had been opened for “welcome evacuated residents in the process of rehousing”. “A security perimeter has been set up in the adjacent streets”completes the press release, specifying that the fire is now “mastered”.

“Intervention in progress in the 4th arrondissement – Boulevard Pardigon / Avenue Chutes Lavie. Avoid the area”posted on (ex-Twitter) the mayor of Marseille Benoît Payan, who went to the scene of the disaster.
