The NGO World Central Kitchen denounces a “tragedy”. Seven members of this American organization which delivers food to the Gaza Strip were killed in an Israeli strike, the association announced Tuesday April 2. The victims were of Australian, British, Polish, American-Canadian and Palestinian nationality, details the NGO, which decided to suspend its activities in the Palestinian enclave, threatened with famine. The Australian Prime Minister confirmed that an Australian woman, Zomi Frankcom, was among the victims. “This is completely unacceptable. Australia demands accountability for all those responsible for the deaths of aid workers”said Anthony Albanese.
Washington calls for an investigation. “We are heartbroken and deeply troubled by the strike”declared a spokesperson for the National Security Council, which reports to the White House. “Aid workers must be protected as they provide desperately needed aid to Palestinians, and we urge Israel to promptly investigate what happened.”added this American official.
Israel speaks of a “tragic incident”. The Israeli army claimed to be in the process of “review the tragic incident at the highest level to understand the circumstances”. According to the NGO, “Despite coordination with the Israeli Defense Forces, the convoy was hit as it was leaving the Deir al-Balah warehouse, where the team had unloaded more than 100 tons of humanitarian food aid.”
More than 70 dead in 24 hours, according to Hamas. The Hamas Ministry of Health announced on Monday the deaths of at least 70 people in “tens” Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip. In the north of the enclave, medical teams searched the rubble of the al-Chifa hospital to extract wounded and corpses after the withdrawal of the Israeli army.
