“Hit fast and hard”
At the end of the day, the plume of smoke was visible for several kilometers around, the avenue Georges Durand was notably immersed in a fog and a smell of burning. “As soon as we have a fire start, to avoid catastrophic consequences, our objective is to hit fast and hard“, explains Benoit Guérin, the fire commander on this fire.
The wind blowing towards the east, the fire risked spreading to the Setram maintenance center, then to the Marie Marvingt stadium. “Every morning, we make a point with the services of Météo France to calibrate the ‘typical departures’, that is to say the number of vehicles that we send in intervention from the start of the game“, continues the firefighter. This Saturday, it was four machines, the maximum number, which allowed a dozen vehicles to be mobilized from the start of the intervention. The device should not be reduced next week , with dry and warm weather expected again.
