The accident involved three vehicles. Seven people were killed, and two others injured, one seriously, on Tuesday June 18, in a traffic accident in the early evening near Chartres, the Eure-et-Loir prefecture said. A couple aged 90 and 85 were killed in the collision and five young people aged 17 to 19 died in the fire of their vehicle, this source told France Télévisions.

The accident took place in the early evening, shortly before 7 p.m., on the RD 921, in Bailleau-le-Pin, Frédéric Blanc, chief of staff of the prefect, told AFP. “A first vehicle which was traveling in the direction Illiers-Combray – Chartres, in which there were five young people, collided with another vehicle which was traveling in the opposite direction, in which the elderly couple were”he clarified. “The first vehicle then collided with a third vehicle which was also coming in the opposite direction. The first vehicle burst into flames. The five occupants died in the fire,” he added.

In the third vehicle, a 23-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were injured, one seriously, and were transported to the Chartres hospital center.

Traffic was completely cut off on this secondary route to allow rescue operations.
