Georges Brassens, who would have been 100 this Friday, October 22, rests today in his hometown of Sète (Herault) alongside his parents and his wife. Between the city and the singer, it’s a love story eternal.

His songs have been around the world, but it’s in Sète (Herault) that they resonate the loudest. The city was the birthplace of singer Georges Brassens 100 years ago, on October 22, 1921. This day is engraved with a white stone on the facade of the house in which he grew up and which he never really left. I come there almost every year, I come to spend a month“, he explained in July 1961.

The street of his birthplace today bears his name. Here, the monument of French song, is just a monument. Brassens is part of the walls: a large work representing him, for example, has been drawn on a building. Moreover, the artist was not a neighbor like the others. Every time he came to see his parents, we talked, says a neighbor. We can’t forget a guy like that. Forty years after his death, Georges Brassens still attracts crowds, in his own way. The fans of the first hour indeed regularly take their step in those of their youthful idol, by visiting the city of Sète.
