servant of the people is now available in Canada”, announced Wednesday Netflix, on the Twitter account dedicated to the Canadian component. The online streaming platform also announced the return of the series to the United States, after having broadcast it from 2017 to 2021. Released in 2015, the satirical series tells the story of a history teacher, played by Volodymyr Zelensky, elected head of Ukraine.

Since the invasion of the country by Russia on February 24, television networks around the world have shown renewed interest in the program that made the Ukrainian president, a former comedian, famous. Strings such as Channel 4 in the UK or ANT 1 in Greece wanted to negotiate with the company Eccho Rights, based in Sweden, in order to be able to broadcast the series.

The spread of servant of the people ended in 2019, after three seasons on the air. That same year, Volodymyr Zelensky was elected chairman of the party bearing the same name as the series. The former comedian won more than 70% of the votes in the elections.

Last Tuesday, the Ukrainian president delivered a poignant speech before the Canadian Parliament, reiterating his request to impose a no-fly zone over his country. This request was refused by NATO countries, including Canada.
