Serial killer Robert Pickton dies after prison attack

Serial killer Robert Pickton died nearly two weeks after an attack suffered at the maximum security prison in Port-Cartier.

The inmate was the victim of a violent attack on May 19 by a fellow inmate who shoved a broomstick into his nose, in addition to stabbing him in the throat.

Pickton died in hospital where he had been placed in a coma due to his medical condition. The latter, a former pig farmer, was serving a life sentence for killing six women, but he was suspected of having killed other victims in British Columbia.

In a press release, Correctional Service of Canada indicates that an investigative committee was convened into the assault that occurred to examine all the facts and circumstances surrounding the assault. This will make it possible to determine, among other things, whether policies and protocols have been respected.

Robert Pickton was 74 years old.
