For this tenth album, Souad Massi totally renewed the team that accompanies him, thus opening a new chapter in a career begun in the 1990s and marked by a departure from Algeria for France. She flies here in search of the sun of his childhood“of light and gentleness”, while tracking down the cruelty that drives dictators to cut off the poet’s hands.
“Sequana” is a collection of 11 songs, including 9 written and composed by Souad Massi, which try to capture the passage of time and the essential, what we must preserve and transmit. She talks about the malaise of today’s adolescents or even the loss of bearings, the dangers of totalitarian regimes that push people to take all the risks to leave their countries. Here, everything is metaphor and paradoxeverything is cocoon and chrysalis, everything is drive, and everything is bond.
“Sequana” displays a variety of musical styles unusual, distilled with delicacy, over the course of inspiration, rock, folk, calypso, bossa, reggae, sounds of the Orient or the Algerian desert.
