A revolution for Axel Maurin: the biker from Senon will run his Yamaha on bioethanol! The new 2022 regulations of the French Motorcycling Federation authorize the use of additional boxes to that of the brand of the motorcycle to operate the machine with biofuel. Since this weekend and until Tuesday, the pilot has therefore been testing his new bioethanol motorcycle on the circuit of Cartagena, in Spain. The Icaunais could thus become one of the first professional drivers to drive eco-responsibly in competition.
“It comes down to a series box that we will add to the original box of the motorcycle and which will take into account the calculations of the biofuel, explains Axel Maurin, approached by a professional in the sector during the last Bol d’Or in September 2021. It will be the essence of the business that you can have at almost any station.”
Fuel five times cheaper
In terms of performance, the Icaunese rider’s Yamaha should not suffer from the switch to biofuel, it could even “gain 10 to 15 horsepower.” The 4th in the last French Superbike championship, which resumes at the end of March, will also save money. “It’s still a fuel that is cheaper, less taxed, because we will be a little bit below one euro. And for a classic competition gasoline, we will be at almost five euros per liter. So there is also an interest in the budget for the season.”
But it is above all ecologically that bioethanol makes the difference for Axel Maurin. “We still reduce CO2 emissions by 50% and particle emissions by 90%. And that allows us to have an eco-responsible behavior in motorsport, which would not necessarily be the first idea we think of. .” It is therefore at the end of March, at Le Mans, for the start of the Superbike season, that we could see Axel Maurin going green!
