In the 4th arrondissement of Lyon (Rhône), free training courses for cycling in the city are offered to over 60s. Report.

In Lyon (Rhône), trainees over 60 are preparing to get back in the saddle to ride in the city. Last check of the hardware, and here we go. All of them have known how to ride a bike for a long time, but practicing in the city involves knowing the markings on the ground, respecting the directions of traffic or even avoiding pedestrians.

Not enough to scare Michelle Radovanovitch who, at 80, still has a good pedal stroke. Gradually, the group gains confidence. “I don’t do a lot of it but I love it, and I would like to do more”, explains Marie-Antoinette Doudet, 68. The training, free, is set up by the town hall of the 4th arrondissement. It is intended for people over 60. “It’s finding reflexes, and reviewing a little agility on the bike”explains Isabelle Bèque, facilitator at the Maison du vélo.
