On the Instagram account revealing the death of Mambo, we can read this message: “In 2009, his story had moved the Pyrénées-Orientales and the whole of France. Mambo, miniature pinscher and martyr dog, died on Thursday September 15 at the age of 16. For a year, the little dog had lost his sight. Diagnosed with acute pancreatitis, he had to receive insulin shots every day. But time and illness took their toll and Mambo left after a good life. However, it had started badly: at the age of two and a half, he crossed paths with teenagers who sprinkled him with gasoline and lit the fire. Mambo has 60% of his body burned and has to undergo numerous operations and skin grafts. Adopted by Dany and René Goizé, the little dog had been flowing for happy days in Espira-de-l’Agly, in the company of Rocky, then Boogie. He slowly recovered, even though he carried the scars of his burns for a long time.
He quickly became a mascot, but above all the symbol of animal abuse. Her story went around France, to Belgium from where her owner received messages for news. And recalls the passage to Perpignan of the actor Alain Delon who had expressly requested to be able to meet this brave little dog. For the occasion, in 2013, our colleagues from the newspaper “L’Indépendant” were able to interview the interpreter of the Cheetah, known to prefer animals to men.
Here are some excerpts revealing the great passion that Alain Delon, Brigitte Bardot’s faithful friend, has for the animal cause:
“Is it true that you had offered the services of your veterinarian for Mambo?
Yes and I had also proposed that they send me the two enc…. who did this on my property, to take care of them! How can we do that?
Does the animal cause affect you so much? Yes, the animals touch me, I had up to fifteen animals at the same time. And that rots are capable of doing them this harm…
Is that one of the reasons for your long friendship with Brigitte Bardot? Yes. You know, without the animals, she wouldn’t be here a long time ago. We call very often with Brigitte, she asks me to help her and I always do. She’s great.
Do you have a cat with three legs? Yes, my wife at the time and my children were at a veterinarian when this cat was brought in. It had been hit by a car and had its paw almost torn off. It was about stealing it. The children called me, I had the cat transported by helicopter to my Parisian veterinarian who amputated it. Since then he has been at home.
And you have your own pet cemetery? Yes, there are 45 dogs and the couples are always buried together. I also had a chapel built. And I will be buried here, there are six places. If you want to come… For me, it’s the ultimate luxury. You want me to go to the Montmartre cemetery? ! No, there is nothing more beautiful than that.”
