One of Pierre Dorion’s goals this draft week seems to be to get rid of his bad contracts, and the Ottawa Senators general manager took the first step in that direction on Tuesday by submitting the name of center Colin White to unconditional waivers, allowing a redemption of his contract if no other team claims it.

Assuming that no team will want their pact to earn them $15.75 million over the next three years, the Senators will be able to buy out the agreement by paying them only one-third of that amount ($5.25 million), because of his age (25 years old). Under the salary cap, they will have to declare $875,000 in five of the next six seasons, while the third year will instead give them a credit of $625,000, according to calculations by the specialized site CapFriendly.
