Senators get Gauthier from Rangers, in return for Motte

(Ottawa) Right-winger Julien Gauthier was traded from the New York Rangers to the Ottawa Senators for Tyler Motte on Sunday.

Ottawa also got a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2023 draft.

Gauthier has six goals and nine points this season in 40 games.

A native of Pointe-aux-Trembles, Gauthier played with Val-d’Or and Saint John in the QMJHL.

The Carolina Hurricanes drafted him 21e altogether in 2016.

The 25-year-old has 11 National League goals and 27 points in 136 games.

“Julien Gauthier is a hard-working winger who skates well,” Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said in a statement. He has a solid size and he regularly goes to the net. His all-ice game should be a nice addition to our roster. »

The Senators will play in Montreal next Saturday.

Motte has three goals and nine points this season in 38 games.

He appeared in nine Rangers games last season, followed by 15 playoff games.

The 27-year-old American has 38 career goals and 71 points in 307 games.
