Montreal Canadiens center Kirby Dach briefly left a preseason game against the Ottawa Senators presented Tuesday evening at the Bell Center in the first period, after taking a hit from Ridly Greig.
Dach, however, was back at his post for the start of the second period.
The Canadian was playing on the power play late in the first period when Dach made a pass entering the zone. Greig seemed to catch Dach in his blind spot and tackled his rival late after he had already gotten rid of the puck.
Dach lay on the ice for a few moments and quickly headed to the locker room when he returned to the bench with 4:17 left in the first period.
The referees initially called a major penalty against Greig, before reducing the sentence to a minor penalty for obstruction.
Greig was targeted by Michael Pezzetta, then Jayden Struble later in the first half. The players from both teams observed each other for a long time near the red line at the end of the period before finally retreating to the locker room.
The score was 1-0 in favor of CH after the first period.
Dach was limited to less than two games last season due to a knee injury.
