The 34-year-old Ontarian will support captain Brady Tkachuk, while Quebecer Thomas Chabot keeps his “A”. He succeeds defender Nikita Zaitsev, who also had the letter embroidered on his jersey last campaign.
It won’t be the first such role for Giroux, who captained the Philadelphia Flyers from 2012 to 2022, until he was traded to the Florida Panthers last winter.
Giroux, who signed a three-year, $19.5 million contract with a no-move clause on July 13, has so far racked up 294 goals and 923 points in 1,018 National Hockey League outings ( NHL).
