Semi-lean ground pork is at its lowest price

In order to help our readers cope with, among other things, the repercussions of rising food prices, our new collaborator Myriam Gendron, creator of the site Simply eatoffers a low-cost menu every week based on the best grocery discounts of the week.

Grocery store discounts from April 18 to 24, 2024

Another week of meals for less than $2.50 per serving… it seems winter is behind us!

Since legumes are in the spotlight this week and one of the recipes requires less than a can, here’s a very simple little tip: freeze your leftover legumes!

Here’s how we do it:

· Fill the cavities of a muffin mold with our remaining legumes. I prefer the silicone ones for unmolding, but be careful to place them on a plate to avoid damage!

· Cover them with water (this will protect them from cold burns).

· We send everything to the freezer for a few hours.

· Unmold the slices and transfer them to a bag or container in the freezer.

· When you need them, let them thaw the day before in the fridge or simply run them quickly under cold water: they will be as good as the first day!

Good week !

OVERVIEW OF FLYERS

The discounts are better than last week, there is variety. Super C hits hard with its sale at $0.99 (which has more than 450 products at this price): it’s a good time to fill your basket with everyday and pantry foods as well as fruits and vegetables less than $1 or $1/lb (e.g. spices, canned legumes and vegetables or even sour cream).

Medium-lean ground pork is at its lowest, but remember that you need to cook it before freezing since it’s a mixture of fresh and frozen parts. This is something to take into consideration before buying a lot with the intention of storing some.

GOOD TO KNOW

A Lebanese cucumber is approximately a quarter of a cucumber. I also suggest replacing the thyme and sage with their dried equivalent (a little more than 1⁄4 tsp). And if it’s too cold to start your barbecue, know that you can cook the pan fillet very well inside: we’re talking about frying the fillet for 2-3 minutes on each side in oil and transferring everything Bake at 400°F for 12 to 15 minutes (for a one-pound fillet). Corn can also be boiled or grilled in a pan.
