Selling fuel at a loss by distributors: a measure that is not unanimously accepted

During the weekend of Saturday September 16, Élisabeth Borne announced that fuel distributors could be authorized to sell at a loss for six months. In Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), motorists point the finger at fuel taxes.

In a service station in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne)there bill is high for motorists: 1.92 euros for diesel, and up to 1.99 euros for unleaded. Some even give up on refueling. “I never filled up. I can’t”testifies one of them. To relieve the wallets of motorists, Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne announced during the weekend of Saturday September 16 that fuel distributors could be allowed to sell at a loss for six months.

“It would be better if they lowered taxes”

This measure was previously prohibited. But at the pump, it is the taxes that are pointed out by drivers. “We could put a tax level to replenish their coffers, but not necessarily have to increase this ceiling”estimates a motorist. “It would be better if they lowered taxes so we could pay less”adds a driver.
