The most followed woman on Instagram with more than 430 million subscribers, actress and singer Selena Gomez announced Monday that she was withdrawing from social networks for a while.
In a message on Instagram, she explains making this decision because “ [s]”Our hearts break when we see all the horror, hatred, violence and terror happening in the world.”
“People being tortured and killed or any act of hatred towards a group is horrible. We must protect ALL people, especially children, and stop violence for good,” she continues.
“I wish I could change the world, but a message on social networks won’t do it,” concludes the singer.
Earlier this month, Selena Gomez held the first benefit event for her foundation, whose mission is to destigmatize mental health disorders. In the past, the singer has spoken publicly about the bipolar disorder diagnosis she received in 2020.
