seize a news item, not a first for the far right

Too many crimes are committed by illegal immigrants who were unwilling or unable to send them home This is what Marine Le Pen swayed on Tuesday, October 18 when she questioned Elisabeth Borne.

>> Murder of Lola: arrested at the National Assembly, Elisabeth Borne and Eric Dupond-Moretti call on the right and the far right to “a little decency”

No decency period, therefore: the little victim is not yet buried, but politics does not wait. The political world seized on Tuesday of the case of this 12-year-old teenager murdered in atrocious conditions, while, four days after the discovery of the body in a trunk in Paris, Emmanuel Macron received his parents on Tuesday at the Elysium.

It must be said that there is competition on the far right. Eric Zemmour flatly denounced “one more Francocide!”, as if the little girl had been killed because she was French. And his Reconquest movement has launched a vigorous offensive on the Internet to mobilize a call to demonstrate this evening in front of the town hall of the 19th arrondissement of Paris.

This is not the first time that the far right has argued over a news item. On the contrary, even: it is a great classic. As early as the 1970s, Jean-Marie Le Pen seized on murders committed by foreigners to castigate immigration. And, already, at the time, we saw certain right-wing leaders engage on the same theme.

Same thing today. Economic and social subjects divide elected LR and those of the RN, but insecurity and immigration bring them closer. Marine Le Pen is therefore using this drama as a decoy to attract to her what remains of the right. And then, this news item allows her to turn the page on strikes, a social subject that makes her uncomfortable: difficult for the RN to be on the side of both refinery strikers and disgruntled motorists.

>> Death of Lola in Paris: what we know about the investigation and the main suspect

Nevertheless, the main suspect was in an irregular situation, under an OQTF, an obligation to leave French territory since the end of August. However, less than 10% of these OQTFs are now followed by effects. Because of long, complex procedures, and because the countries of origin are reluctant to welcome their nationals. This is precisely why in retaliation, Emmanuel Macron halved the number of visas issued to Algeria. But in the present case, the suspect, who entered France regularly six years ago, had never been convicted or even prosecuted. This explains why her residence permit having expired, she benefited from a voluntary return period of 30 days. So she didn’t comply. Does this mean that the sequence of events was inevitable? Of course not. The management of reality is always more complex than the vociferation of demagogic slogans for electoral purposes.
