A new department on alert. Seine-et-Marne is placed on orange alert for floods on Thursday, September 26, Météo France announced in its 4 p.m. bulletin. “A major flood” is underway on the lower Grand Morin after the “significant” rainfall since Wednesday afternoon, Vigicrues specifies. Isère, Savoie, Ain, Haute-Savoie are also still placed on orange rain-flood alert, Météo-France said. The Jura is no longer affected by the orange alert. In total, six departments are on alert.
“A very rainy disturbance will continue for a good part of the end of the day on an axis going from the east of New Aquitaine to the Northern Alps and the Jura”specifies Météo-France, which details the expected consequences.
“In the departments of Ain, Jura, Isère, Savoie and Haute-Savoie, the totals could easily reach 50 to 80 mm in 12 hours of almost continuous rain, or even 70 to 100 mm over the entire episode. The most intense rains will occur rather on Thursday afternoon in Jura and Ain then at the end of the day or the following night in Savoie and Haute-Savoie. Overflowing of rivers or mudslides are possible. In the department of Corrèze, already affected by significant amounts of rain over the last three days, we expect this Thursday totals between 50 and 60 mm of rain over a very large part of the department and could locally reach 60 to 80 mm in Haute-Corrèze”we can read on the weather station’s website.
